Jiaye Wang
Sound Artist / Audio Producer
Jiaye Wang (*2003) is a sound artist and musician born in China and currently based in London. She graduated from University College London (UCL) with an MA in Designing Audio Experiences. Her artistic practice spans multichannel spatial sound, sound design, sound installation, and music.
Through her work, she explores the intersections of culture, human experience, and social memory, translating emotional and social textures into spatial soundscapes. With a background in sound technology, she frequently collaborates across disciplines—working with theatre, film, music, and new media practitioners.
An avid solo traveler backpacker, Wang has journeyed through nearly twenty countries, using sound as a medium to listen, document, and reflect the wolrd. These experiences not only inform the themes of her work—rooted in place, identity, and encounter—but also shape her creative methodology, where attentive listening and sensitivity to context become the foundation of her artistic process.

“
I heve always beliebed that all art is born of suffering.
My kinship with music and sound comes from the tenderness with which they dissolve and embrace my pain. Through these years, I have walked alone across many lands and witnessed many different worlds. I am grateful for my time at UCL, for how it brought the vision of anthropology into the landscape of my art. My works have begun to weave themselves with culture, with people, with nature. Yet even so, I still feel that at the deepest root of my creation lies an enduring sensitivity to human suffering.
There are always tears flowing in this world, and always songs sung in blood. If the history of our time is written line by line as 404 forbidden, then let sound say something — beyond the reach of language.
Perhaps my works have not yet truly confronted or remembered the sorrow of any certain people; they have so far dwelled more on culture and the reflections of humanity. Yet someday, perhaps on a calm, ordinary afternoon, I may let some stories be remembered.
